Barber Chair

How You Can Find Antique Barber Chairs Online
Antique barber chairs have now become a very high priced collector’s item. There availability is becoming limited because many have been snapped up by professional collectors and regional museums. The majority of barber shops have now changed over to the modern conventional chairs .so increasingly it is becoming harder to find a barber shops that still use them each business day.
Our local barber has three antique barber chairs in his barber shop, but he doesn’t use that part of the shop to cut hair. Instead he has installed two other chairs where he does his work. In the wall display case above the antique barber chairs are antique clippers. He once told me that the value of those antique barber chairs and the clippers were worth more than his barber shop and all the money he had made in it over the past 32 years.
The first barber chair was created by a man named Earnest Koken in 1906. This was a hydraulic chair that allowed the barber to adjust the height of the person in the chair to meet his needs. This helped ensure the very best hair cut even for the very small children who came to the barber.
This barber chair also featured a swivel so the barber could turn the customer as needed,, also a footrest, and a reclining back.
The internet has become a great place to start looking for various styles of antique barber chairs to add to your collection or to simply see what is available out there. When you enter Barber Chair as a search term you will find that EBay feature prominently, and the brand Koken that I mentioned above will typically be the highest priced chairs for sale. When you look closely at the Koken brand barber chairs you will quickly realise why that brand in particular have such a following. A typical Kokand Barber chair will weigh about 300 pounds and feature Iron Porcelain and quality leather seats.
Even if you have no plans to invest in an antique barber chair I think you would find looking them up online interesting. The chairs are so well built and amazingly attractive and well constructed. If you can find a Child’s barber seat online these are set to become extremely valuable in the coming years. One brand that use to make Child barber seats is firm called Berninghause and co, from Cinncinatti.
You should also try to find them at auctions and antique stores. You can expect to pay anywhere from several hundred dollars to thousands of dollars for an antique barber chair. It depends on the quality of the chair, the particular design of the chair, and who you are buying it from.
