A barber is generally a male who cuts hair for other males professionally. The services may also include trimming or removing beards or mustaches. The main difference between a barber and other salons is that a barber generally provides a basic haircut. They don’t take care of hair tinting, coloring, spiking, or other details that make the person unique. While you can get a very unique haircut from a barber based on the style you desire, don’t expect anything that is trendy.
A barber works in a barbershop. Almost all of them are closed on Sundays and Mondays. It is not know exactly when barbers came into being, but they have a significant place in history back to written times. They were called different names in different cultures but the concept remains the same.
Today all barbers have to get a license to cut hair in the state they will be doing business in. The licensing requirements vary by each state so you will have to find out for your particular state. There are a set number of hours that the individual has to have in training as well as observing various barbershop practices.
There are also licensing requirements that involve safety practices and sanitation for the products, tools, and equipment used in the various processes of cutting hair, shaving, and giving trims to facial hair. The internet is a good source of information for anyone interested in finding out the specific barber requirements to become licensed in their state.
Many people go back to their barber because of the friendly atmosphere and they know what they can expect from their haircut. The prices are often less expensive than at a beauty salon as well. It is common for a barber to remain in business for decades so it becomes a tradition for a grandfather, son, and grandchildren to all go to the same place for their haircuts.
