Japanese Hair Straightening Explained
The introduction of Japanese Hair Straightening has been met with warm welcome from the hairstyling elite of the western world and has been and still is the latest trend for celebrities worldwide. Let us dig deeper and unravel the secrets to “Luscious Looking Hair”.
Japanese Hair Straightening, which is also known as Thermal Reconditioning, Magic Straight, Bio Ionic Straightening and the Yuko System, is a permanent hair straightening technique that uses heat to restructure the bonds in your hair so that the hair lies straight, giving you glossy, smooth hair that reflects light, radiates colour and gives the appearance of silken gloss.
The best systems on the market are Liscio and Yuko both of which come from Japan. Liscio is a popular choice as it commonly used in today’s salons. Yuko Yamashita is the founder of the Yuko system and was granted a patent for her system in Japan in 1995. She also opened up her first specialized hair straightening salon in 1996 and introduced her system to the USA in 1997. Since then she has educated many top hairstylists on how to use her techniques and has founded the YUKO Academy which offers budding hairstylists the opportunity to learn this most innovative skill and take their hairstyling ability to the next level.
Japanese Hair Straightening can be applied to almost all types of hair, with only one exception, that being the hair mostly of African origin as the hair might fail under the intense heat process. This process will have your client in the chair for at least 6 hours undergoing shampooing, heating under intense lamps, blowing out, flat ironed and then repetition of the same process all over again.
This hair straightening system comes with an expensive price tag ranging anywhere from $300 – $800 which is good news for hairstylists, and it only requires a re-growth touch up every 6 – 9 months, which is good news for your customer as they have maintenance free glamorous and glossy looking hair for at least 6 months, so it’s a win win situation for both client and hairstylist.
There is a 72 hour initial aftercare process which your client must adhere to in order to fully benefit and enjoy lasting results, simple enough guidelines like contact with water, as they will not be allowed to wash their hair for several days.
In closing, the YUKO Academy offer their training in the USA, UK and Japan and I would encourage all professional hairstylists to add this string to their bow as these hair straightening techniques are becoming extremely popular and it looks like it still will be for a long time to come.
