Most people think it’s really difficult to learn how to cut men’s hair. Of course, you will develop your own unique style as you get better but these basic pointers are a great place to start.
Ever noticed how sometimes the barber wets your hair but other times they will give you a dry cut? Wet or dry is dependent on the type of cut that the barber is intending to give you. When hair is sheered or the barber makes use of a razor, it is better to wet the hair. When the barber make use of a clipper or do blending it is done on dry hair, because it is easier to see what way the hair falls in their natural position.
The neckline is a very important part of a mans haircut, so get it right and you will do well. Men with long slim necks should be blocked whereas it might be more appropriate to taper the neckline of someone with a short stubby neck.
Take a cue from professional salons and make sure you have the right working environment. To keep a good perspective on the cut, sit your subject a few feet away from a mirror and take a few steps back yourself. When cutting real short hair or hair with a dark color, it needs to be done where there proper light is present.
If you want well defined lines then use a clipper. The technique takes a little getting used to but is relatively straightforward. Hold the clipper blade gently against the skin at the base of the hairline. Then, move it upwards pivoting the blade outwards and upwards until the back of the blade just touches the hair.
A skilled barber will always take pride in their work and finishing the little jobs off such as the lines of the sideburns and around the neck and ears can be the difference between a good haircut and a great one.
No matter how much time effort and skill you have put into the earlier stages, if you fail to finish it off the whole haircut will be ruined. There you have to then a few simple pointers on how to cut men’s hair. Remember, just take your time and practice and pretty soon you will become skilled at the job.
